The local water service team celebrated the completion of a $6.3 million investment in public health and economic development. Texas Water Utilities (TWU) hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new water treatment plant which supports improved water quality and increased capacity for community growth.

Tim Williford, VP of Operations, said, “I couldn’t be prouder of our local team and the work they do everyday to serve the residents and businesses of Lometa. It isn’t often they get a chance to pause and celebrate the critical role they plan in the community. Today was for the community as a whole, including our team members.”

In 2022, TWU started construction on the new water treatment system which includes new storage tanks and a new treatment process. In April 2026, TWU received approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to bring the plant online. Construction was fully completed and the plant was placed in use in June 2026.

Advanced treatment technology at the plant supports full compliance with strict drinking water guidelines. It also addresses previous discoloration challenges resulting from naturally occurring minerals. Plant capacity was also increased with the ability to expand from 1 million gallons per day (MGD) to 2 MGD, and further to 2.8 MGD
if needed, supporting local growth.

During the plant tour, Area Manager Matt Molter explained the new treatment process uses advanced ceramic membrane technology to filter out extremely small particles and impurities. He said, “These durable membranes are designed with multiple layers that provide both effective filtration and long-term strength, helping deliver high-quality water while keeping maintenance needs low.”
